Doc appt

Our doctor's appointment was less exciting than we thought it would be. More informative, overwhelming is a better description. They did a bunch of tests, asked us a bunch of questions and gave us a ton of information. We didn't even get to see baby :( Will have to wait until next Wednesday. Luckily we will still get weekly ultrasounds from our reproductive endocrinologist through week 12. Looks like we will be delivering at Scripps Mercy. That is the only hospital our new doctor will deliver at. We have heard great things about it, just haven't seen it yet.

So we were hoping to have more updates, but this is all you get for now!

Baby is the size of a raspberry at week 8

Everything that will be found in a fully developed adult is now present. Elbows and fingers become evident. The heart has been beating for more than a month, the stomach produces digestive juices and the kidneys have begun to function. Forty muscle sets begin to operate in conjunction with the nervous system.

The babies body responds to touch and the vertebrae in the neck can bend; the trunk is able to straighten. However, the woman carrying the baby will not be able to feel movement until the fourth or fifth month.

In other words, the baby feels the mother, but the mother doesn't feel the baby.

7 weeks, 5 days

Almost 8 weeks and getting bigger! Doctor said it is measuring exactly where it should be and the heartbeat is strong. We have our first OBGYN appointment on Wednesday!

Our little blueberry

Baby's brain -- both hemispheres! -- is growing fast, generating about 100 new cells every minute. Arms and legs are emerging as joints start to form, and a permanent set of kidneys (baby's third!) is now in place. Baby has doubled in size since last week!

Mom is starting to feel the effects of pregnancy. Nausea is pretty much a daily occurrence, some days are better than others and I have been super tired. Luckily I have time to rest and take naps--back to work in less than two more weeks though!

We went on our first hospital tour last week. It is not where we will be delivering but it was interesting and we learned a lot!

Just about 7 weeks old...

Baby at almost 7 weeks! Doc says everything is looking good!
If you look very closely, you can see where the arms and legs are starting to form.

Bailey's ready for baby!

Acupuncturist makes prediction

So I went to acupuncture the other day and Beth, my acupuncturist was asking if we were going to find out the gender ahead of time and I told her yes, of course. She then proceeded to tell me how "they" can tell the gender based on which side of the mother's body has a stronger pulse. She took my pulse at the beginning and the end of the session and she said that my left side had a clearly stronger pulse, which equals girl! No, I am not taking it to be solid truth, but it's fun to play along! Next doctor's appointment is tomorrow!

Growing like crazy, baby is starting to sprout eyes, ears, nose, cheeks and chin. Those little hands and feet- still webbed like paddles- might wiggle by week's end, the heart is beating (almost twice as fast as yours!), and blood is starting to circulate.
