Slow down baby!

She's getting so big and so much fun! She is smiling a lot and starting to laugh. She is "talking" more and more each day. She loves her swing, baths and sleeping on mom's chest. She hates tummy time, putting clothes on over her head and letting mom and dad eat dinner together. She is becoming her own little person more and more each day. She is starting to stay awake for much longer periods, which makes our daily outings slightly more difficult. She has her two month check-up this week which includes her first round of shots :(

Slow down baby, you're growing too fast!

How to Really Love a Child:

Be there. Say Yes as Often as you can.
If they're crabby, put them in water.
Read books out loud with joy.
Go find elephants and kiss them. Encourage Silly.
Giggle a lot. Paint their tennis shoes
Imagine you are magic. Remember how really small they are.
Search out the positive. Let them bang on pots and pans
Keep the gleam in your eye. Teach feelings.
Realize how much it means to be a child.
Plan to build a rocket ship.
Stop yelling. Surprise them often
Express your love a lot…children are miraculous!

Before I became a mother, I used to think...

...that changing dirty diapers was the nastiest thing in the world.

...that babies were made out of glass and had to be handled very carefully.

...that I could not function on only three hours of sleep. That's not a solid three hour block, that's three hours total.

...that I knew what love really was.

...that watching someone sleep and wondering what they're dreaming about would be boring.

...that my mother was exaggerating when she said that she'd easily throw herself in harm's way to save me without a second thought.

...that I would never sing the same silly song in the same silly voice over and over again just to make someone smile.

...that I would never be nervous for someone else to get shots.

...that my mother worried too much.

...that I didn't have it in me to be a mother.

...that I could be pregnant 40 weeks and 5 days, then spend 27 hours in the hospital strapped to the bed and go through the pains of labor, tons of swelling and soreness, and feel without a doubt that I'd immediately go through it all again in a heartbeat for Kaylee.

Lesson learned...

So, I started out being an overly prepared mom with a diaper bag overflowing with everything we could possibly need. That got old real quick and I started getting rid of things when I realized I could never find anything because there was so much crap in the bag!

We decided to get out of the house and spend some time walking in a local park. We loaded up the dogs, baby and diaper bag in the car. When we got there, we decided we didn't need the diaper bag (even though we were taking the stroller) and set out. We had all we needed (we thought) diapers, wipes, warm blanket, cool blanket, bottle, pacifier. What more could we need, right?

So about a mile into our walk, Kaylee started to fuss so we fed her, burped her and then "heard" that we needed to change her. Let's just say her outfit could not be salvaged and we were stranded without any clothes!

It was much too cold to leave her in just a diaper, so we made her a baby toga, of course!

When we finally made it back to the car, we found that the diaper bag contained 6 pairs of socks and 3 jackets. No clothes. We had NO clothes in the diaper bag! Baby girl had to go home in a hoodie and a pair of socks. Poor girl!

Needless to say, the diaper bag has been "refilled" and we will not have another episode like today!

Pro pics...

This week we were lucky enough to have a photo shoot with Long Beach photographer, Charla Blue. We were aiming for the "sleepy newborn" look but Kaylee wasn't having anything to do with our plans. She was awake almost the entire shoot and a little fussy at times. Charla did an amazing job. We have only gotten a little taste of what's to come, but we LOVE the shots that were captured so far!

Afterward, Kaylee got to go meet more of her family and her cousin Paxton (maybe 2nd cousin technically) Paxton was more interested in finding a way to get those panda bears off her feet!
