One of the good/bad things about being a parent is all of the "stuff" that comes along with it. I really like trying out new things and having a variety of things to choose from but I don't like how much space it takes up in my house. We were blessed with lots of hand-me-downs so Kaylee has tons of things to choose from. Lately, she seems to be getting "bored" and wanting to move around more, do more, explore more. Unfortunately, she is just not quite big enough for a lot of the fun stuff that is waiting for her. Her toes just graze the ground in her jumparoo, all the toys are too far away from her on her exersaucer and it's definitely too soon for the jogging stroller!
I was anxious to get Kaylee to take a bottle. I appreciate all the benefits of breastfeeding for mother and baby and all, but I am happy to share feeding duties with daddy and not to mention having the ability to leave the house if needed and not worry that my child might be starving. So, I started pumping and we gave the bottle a try. I didn't really have high expectations that it would work the first time. I had multiple bottles on hand, in the event she didn't like the first one I chose. We went with the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles to start. I got her ready, gave her the bottle, and... she took it the first time! Gulped down 3 ozs and was ready for more! I thought it might have been beginner's luck but we gave her another one today without a problem. Next step: getting daddy to give the bottle :)
Sanity savers for the day: the white noise app for the iPhone (waves crashing is our fav) & "bouncing" her to sleep on the exercise ball
I think I may have waited a week too long, but have promised myself that I will get all of the baby clothes, blankets, sheets, etc. washed before the week is through. Luckily I have all week off. After about the first 5 loads, the novelty and excitement of folding tiny, pink clothes definitely wore off. I am determined to get it all done as soon as possible though, because as time goes on, I am just getting more and more uncomfortable.
Milestone of the week: Kaylee has found my ribs! I was very happy to be ignorant about what it feels like to have a foot stuck in your ribs for so long. Ignorant no more. She usually shoves her foot up there when I am sleeping and I don't notice it until I stand up to go to the bathroom. I am trying to stay as upright as possible to keep her outta there! ^Casey is trying to get used to all the baby gear^
(yes, that is a cabbage patch doll in the swing. we had to take a doll to our baby care class so we could practice swaddling and diapering and she has been hanging around the house ever since.)
Last week we found out that our crib was recalled because of dangers posed by the hardware for the drop side crib. :( It was disappointing, at first, and we (I) immediately started researching and looking for a new crib. Things have a funny way of working out though. A friend overheard a conversation about out crib being recalled and promptly let me know that they had not just a crib, but a whole nursery set that they are not using anymore! We are THRILLED to have been offered this set and although I can no longer say the nursery is complete, I am actually really excited to set up the nursery all over again! AND Babies R Us was having their great trade-in event where people can trade in old or unsafe baby equipment for a 25% off coupon. We hauled in our old crib and used the coupon for our new pack and play:
Kaylee was more active today than she has possibly ever been. Maybe she didn't know what to do with herself with all this peace and quiet. She can sleep through 15 kindergarteners yelling, screaming and talking to her all day long, but apparently needed no sleep this morning. If you look closely, you can see what I mean below (just watch out for my big ol' belly!)
After further research, we think the doc's "prediction" is nothing more than a 50/50 guess. Boys and girls have a 'bump' at this point, so there is no real way to say it is a boy bump or a girl bump. If you are really interested, you can see what I mean here At our appointment there was no way to tell what the "angle of the dangle" was!
So we are not painting the nursery blue just yet!
Baby got to go to it's first Dave Matthews concert last night! It really liked it!
We also went to Babies R Us yesterday and it appears that we have our stroller and our crib picked out. My husband is now obsessed with consumer reports, so it took a great deal of research before we were able to choose one. I hope it doesn't take that long to choose everything else we will need. We won't be done in time, if that's the case!!!
